While walking through my garden early this spring
I noticed how prolific the Columbine  were in the eastern garden.
As I gazed at them floating and dancing above the surrounding flowers, it occurred to me that Columbines may have been inspiration  for the notion of woodland fairies.
Columbine flowers come in many shapes and colors.  Mine are pink, blue and red/yellow. I believe the red/yellow ones are considered wild.
Pink Columbine
Red and Yellow Columbine
Blue Columbine
have seen some very beautiful Columbines in garden books
and wouldn’t mind a few more dancing around with the others.
Could you just imagine these colorful flower fairies dancing in the spring breeze?
I found that there were a few artists who  illustrated fairies based upon flowers.
One in particular was for the Columbine.  The artwork of Cicely Mary Barker is very Delightsome!
Her red and yellow Columbine Fairy is charming.  There’s also a poem that goes along with it.
