Budding Promises
We're in an every other day pattern here.
One day cold and rainy.
The next bright, warm and sunny.
This morning was brilliantly sunny.
I have been watching this daffodil for
several days now. I anticipate this will
be the first among many to bloom.
When we moved here, I brought nearly all of our flowers
from our previous home. Among those were several
daffodils. The majority of the blooms, however
we rescued. There was once a plantation where
quite a number of bulbs resided.
Generations later the family sold the land to
a granite mining company. They mined the area
for a while then abandoned it. For several years
the land lay dormant and the daffodils
bloomed and multiplied. Then, as things would
happen - the land has been resold to another
granite mining company. Several of us
visited this site prior to rescue as many daffodils as we could.
The land is stripped and barren now - the mining is slated
to begin soon.
So, each spring I have the blessing of very old
some doubled, daffodils.
The Forsythia is budding too - I didn't
get very good pictures - I believe
I will be able to bring several branches
in soon to force indoors.
The sun has gone behind clouds now. The air is cooling.
We may get some snow in the early hours of the morning.
I have wished for several years for snow - I love it!
This year is quite a blessed one. Yet, I count the days
until I can be outdoors visiting the garden as
skeletal beings remind me of the beauty they once
were and they begin to awake from a long winter's nap.
As I cleared some debris I found this!
Hello! Helleboro!
What a delight! I had been looking and somehow
missed her. There are several buds surrounding her.
She bows so you need to lift her head to see her beauty.
A tiny Narcissus is blooming too - someone clipped
her leaves by accident. But, she like many others
are persevering. I am anticipating spring and
counting the days while I keep watch on all the
changes in my garden.
